Essential / Non essential Maintenance

No driveway is maintenance free, and any installation is susceptible to general wear and tear and the effects of the weather. However, concrete is a very durable material, and a well fitted pattern imprinted concrete driveway will keep your maintenance costs very low. In general, all that is required to make your driveway look as good as new is a re-application of sealant. We recommend that this is done every couple of years.

The procedure starts with a full clean of the surface of the driveway. If necessary, the crack control joints will then be cleaned and silicone re-applied. Lastly the sealant layer will be applied, which will fully protect the concrete underneath and make it look as good as new.

It is best to do this work in the summer months, as any moisture in the air can get into the sealant and make it go a milky white colour. This is what we call ‘blooming’ and is a common problem. Don’t worry though, the concrete is still fully protected and the problem is very simple to rectify.
